Origins
In 1963, Ernest James (Jim) Lack set up shop in Hawthorn with a van, a tool box and a reputation for turning up on time. Word of mouth did the rest. In 1979 the business moved to the Hawthorn premises it still operates from today. Over six decades, E J Lack Electrical has grown from a one-man band into a full-service electrical contracting business — but the operating principle hasn't changed: do the job properly, look after your clients, and they'll call you back.
Today, Anthony Lack leads the team, having taken over E J Lack Electrical in 2011, carrying forward the standards Jim built. All our vans are fitted with drop sheets and vacuums to keep your property tidy — because a job well done includes leaving your space as we found it. The company serves Hawthorn and the inner-east Melbourne for domestic, commercial, and owners corporation electrical work — backed by over 60 years of local experience.

Gold Master Electrician
Gold Master Electrician is the highest accreditation a contractor can hold in the Australian electrical industry.
Awarded by Master Electricians Australia (MEA), it requires passing an independent audit of workmanship, safety systems, compliance with national standards and a strict code of ethics.
E J Lack Electrical has held Gold status for over a decade — meaning our Safe Systems of Work and quality controls are reviewed and verified annually, not just at a point in time. It's not a badge you can buy; it's earned through consistent performance.

Registered Electrical Contractor 1827
In Victoria, you must be a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) to legally carry out electrical installation work for profit.
The REC licence is issued by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), the state's energy safety regulator.
REC 1827 means E J Lack Electrical is registered with ESV, our electricians hold current Grade A licences, and our work complies with the Electricity Safety Act and Australian Standards. ESV requires RECs to hold public liability insurance with a minimum of $5 million cover — E J Lack Electrical carries $20 million, so every job we do is fully insured for your protection.
