Three-Phase Outlets for Commercial Sites in Melbourne

Three-phase power for commercial equipment — higher capacity, smoother operation and future-proofed supply.

Three-Phase Commercial Power

Three-phase power is the standard for commercial and industrial sites. It delivers three separate electrical cycles, providing:

  • Higher capacity – up to 3× the power of single-phase supply
  • Smoother operation – motors and compressors run more quietly and efficiently
  • Balanced loading – power is distributed across three phases, reducing strain on any single circuit
  • Future-proofing – room to add high-power equipment without upgrading the mains supply

Equipment Compatibility

Commercial equipment that benefits from three-phase power:

  • Large air conditioning systems – multi-split, ducted VRF and commercial heat pumps
  • Kitchen equipment – commercial ovens, cooktops and refrigeration
  • Workshop machinery – lathes, milling machines, welders and compressors
  • EV charging stations – fast commercial chargers at 11kW or 22kW
  • Lifts and hoists – three-phase motors for smooth, reliable operation
  • Server rooms – high-density IT equipment with UPS backup

Load Assessment

Before installing three-phase outlets, we assess:

  • Existing supply – is three-phase already available at the site?
  • Switchboard capacity – does the switchboard have space and capacity for new three-phase circuits?
  • Equipment requirements – what voltage, current and phase does each piece of equipment need?
  • Future growth – is there room to add more three-phase circuits later?

If three-phase is not available, we can coordinate with your DSO to upgrade the supply.

What to Expect

1

Assessment

We check your current supply, switchboard capacity and equipment requirements.

2

DSO Coordination (if needed)

If three-phase is not available, we coordinate with your Distribution Service Operator to arrange the supply upgrade.

3

Switchboard & Wiring

We upgrade the switchboard to three-phase, install the correct circuit breakers and run three-phase wiring to each outlet.

4

Testing & Certification

We test every phase, verify earthing and issue the compliance paperwork for your three-phase installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my site already have three-phase?
Check your switchboard — if you see three main incoming cables (plus neutral and earth), you likely have three-phase. Most commercial premises are already on three-phase. We can confirm during the assessment.
How much does a three-phase upgrade cost?
If three-phase is already available, the cost is the switchboard upgrade and wiring. If it is not available, the DSO charges apply (typically $500–$2000 depending on the provider and location). We provide a full quote before any work starts.
Can I mix single-phase and three-phase on the same switchboard?
Yes — a three-phase switchboard can power both single-phase and three-phase circuits. Your standard outlets and lighting remain on single-phase, while high-power equipment uses three-phase.
